Smashing the Patriarchy with Rainbows and Glitter

Hey there, I'm a friendly person! Ask me things! :-)   Submit Some Shit   About   Narcissism Page/My Face

I'm Bean. I'm a young adult. I like a lot of things. Hi. :3

It sounds like my grandmother will be tested for mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (the thing Angelina Jolie did). If she has the harmful mutations in either of those genes that increase the risk of getting breast and/or ovarian cancer (well, she already has breast cancer), then she’ll need not only a double mastectomy but I believe a hysterectomy. Also, it means that *I* should *really really* have that test done at some point in my life, seeing as my grandmother currently has cancer and all of my grandmothers and great-grandmothers (expect one) have had breast cancer (and my paternal grandmother died of breast cancer at age 48). Depending on when I got the test done and what the results were, I would probably keep my ovaries and all that good stuff (since I want kids) but I would definitely get a double mastectomy as soon as I could. The weird part is my breasts are really small and I never paid much attention to them, but the thought of losing them is really *weird* and I think that says more about how IMPORTANT and WOMANLY we think breasts are. And like, idk. I may or may not have a ticking bomb in my genes.
